About Evidlake
What Evidlake is, where the name comes from, and how we write, check and correct what we publish.
Evidlake is a knowledge site about trustworthy data, sound research methods and careful decisions. It is a glossary, a set of tutorials, and — over time — notes on how evidence is gathered, checked and used.
Why these names
Evidlake comes from Evidence Lake. Our three project names are parts of a water system: an inlet lets water in, a gauge reads the level, and a sluice controls the gate. Each stands on its own, they are loosely coupled, and they share one waterline. You can read more on the products page.
How we write
- Public sources first. Entries are written from textbooks, papers and standards, and they cite them.
- Examples are labeled. When a number is made up for illustration, the page says “Synthetic data”.
- Facts, inference and opinion are kept apart. We say which is which, and we say when the evidence is thin.
- People check the work. We may use software to help draft or tidy text. Every claim, formula and citation is checked by a person before a page is published.
Corrections
When we find an error we fix it, change the “Updated” date, and for anything that matters we add a note under “Corrections & updates” on the page.
What this site is not
It is not investment, business or legal advice, and it does not offer anything for sale or sign-up.
